Serapid, Inc. was recently given the opportunity to custom-engineer quick-die-change (QDC) carts for a leading automotive supplier that is increasing the size of one of its plants by adding several new presses. The company realized it would need to include a system to maximize the efficiency of the new presses and maintain high production and quality. The solution was to incorporate a QDC system. Serapid provided the automotive supplier with a fully automated system for each press, which will allow for die changes in 5 to 10 min. Before the new equipment was installed, die changes took to 20 min. to complete. The new die carts feature a Serapid rigid-chain push-pull unit, and are capable of handling dies weighing to 20 tons.

Each Serapid QDC system is designed according the specifications and needs of the customer. Serapid provides die-moving and positioning equipment, from press-mounted loading systems to rail-guided die carriers. Die positioning is performed using a patented rigid-chain actuator.
